Hi folks, friendly list admin here :)
Recently, a couple of messages have passed through that had a uuencoded
winmail.dat file attached to them. I know these are generated by MS mail
and Exchange when you do things like attach spreadsheets and stuff to
messages and maybe when you do some sorts of internal formatting of messages
reply(like fonts and such). Since this list is distributed to a large number
(well, not so large but...) of people, and not all of them run mail systems
capable of breaking those files off and either throwing them away automatically
or making some use of them, and since I personally have no way of making the
list software filter them out and throw them away globally, I have to ask
that you be a bit more careful and do your best to not attach them to files.
Hopefully this will make life easier all around, though it does mean giving
up on sending WinWord formatted filks (aww shucks :) and having to possibly
type them in again into the message.
I will look into some possible way to filter those out, but right now I
don't know of any. Thanks for your understanding and help in making this
list run smoothly.
