Be brave, Julia. Filkers are not so fierce as all that. I'm looking forward to putting faces with some names at Orycon, and maybe will even meet you next year at Westercon 50. I live in Southern Oregon, and don't even know most of the people in Portland. Regarding Orycon: I will be hosting a small gathering in my room Friday evening from 7 pm till whenever. It's being organized as an "alt.culture.oregon ' at ' party," not filk. It's just a place for online people to come and get acquainted early in the con before everything gets so busy. Local Oregon produce will be featured, including some outrageous 13-pepper salsa I made this year, and some wild plum jelly. If you have home made Oregon style goodies, feel free to bring *small* quantities. This is a tasting, not a feed. I don't want a pile of food rotting in my room for the duration. Look for 'a.c.o at party' signs in the hall Friday afternoon or evening.
