Up until now only a small number of filk songs were available, and those
only through email to majordomo at dragoncat.net. I finally got around to
setting this up for access via FTP and the WWW as well. In addition, there
is an FTP directory set up for incoming submissions of filk songs which you
wish to have added to the archive.
When submitting a song, please make sure that the author has given permission
either explicit or blanket for their works to be distributed, and that any
copyright and attributions on the song are correct.
To retrieve songs via majordomo:
send mail to 'majordomo at dragoncat.net'
with the text 'index filk' in the body of the letter.
This will return a list of both the song archives and the mailing list
archives.
To retrieve a specific song (or songs), send mail to 'majordomo at dragoncat.net'
with a line of 'get filk <filename>' for each file you wish to retrieve.
In the above, exclude the quotes when sending the mail, and replace
<filename> with the full name of the file you wish to retrive
EG:
get filk songs/reckoning
would retrieve the song reckoning by Steve Dixon
To submit files to the archive via email:
Send the TEXT file in email to either filk at dragoncat.net (which goes to
everyone) or to jtraub at dragoncat.net (if you just want to put it into the
archive without blasting it to the list)
To retrieve songs via FTP:
FTP to ftp.dragoncat.net and change directory to /pub/filk
Then download the file(s) you want.
For details on how to use FTP see the documentation for whatever FTP program
you are using.
