Rirst--I don't drive, and Portland is WAY too far, even for carpooling, because of time constraints. I am interested in getting involved and discussing a filk convention, but if the meeting is in Portland, count me out. Rustycon, on the other hand...how many people are going to be there, and could we arrange a time for those of us who are there (or who might show up for a room party) to discuss filk con ideas? Or is this suggestion completely out of line? CIRCLE FORMATS--Chaos does, admittedly, work better for larger groups. My main personal difficulty with it is that, since I can't see other people in the room well, I run the high risk of either jumping on people or never getting to sing at all. For this reason, I tend to prefer bardics, and they pretty much end up happening around me if the group is small enough and everyone is amenable. HOT SPOT--If i get to a circle late, I'll take whatever seat I can find (usually closest to the door and most visible to me) and I would NOT appreciate, in the middle of setting up stuff, being told that I've just taken the "hot spot". Advice: if it happens, just go on past it and pick up the newcomer the next time. Don't have time for more now. I'll read karen's book--I mean essays--and comment later.
