Hrmmmm. At the risk of sounding us-against-them, I would say that Portland has a bigger *established* filk core, with the Friends of Filk, and Firebird and such located here. That and Seattle has alot more cons happening, at least this year, the odds are good that people would be suffering from con burnout, and wouldn't want to come to a new con.  I can't make it to any of the Seattle cons, and I can name at least 4 other people interested in helping with a filk con who couldn't make it either. (They don't have computer access, or I'd have them speak for themselves) I think there is a larger concentration of Seattle people *here* because the list is based in Seattle, so it occasionaly feels like those of us to the south are outnumbered.
Maybe this could be one of those cons that alternates between Portland and Seattle, although then you come up against the different locations wanting to do things their way, and it ends up being two totaly different cons.
