Hi folks,
Karen Rall (quarong) pointed out to me that it's been a while since I posted the info file on this list to the list, and that she at least had old information (like what address for subscription, etc) in her records, so I figured it's about time to repost :)

Welcome to the Northwest Filk Mailing List!

We'd like to take a moment of your email time to state our purpose and intent with this list as well as to let you know who to contact about issues you may have.

PURPOSE:
We have created this filk mailing list to help the growth and development of filking in the Pacific Northwest. We have a great many people with terrific talent and want to show them off to anyone who will listen. In addition, we would like to have this list become a place to exchange ideas and feedback about filking issues and concerns but especially songs and filk tape/songbook/cd reviews. We DO NOT want this list to become any kind of a political forum and will gladly quash any political stuff that appears.
A second purpose of this list is to provide access to a filk songbook on the net. Please see the section 'Filk Songbook' below for more details.

ADMINISTRATION:
This list is administered by JT Traub (jtraub at dragoncat.net), Maura Rebholz and Chuck van der Linden (both at mythos at oz.net). We are open to any suggestions and input, but please email us directly at the above addresses. All of the administrators (JT, Maura and Chuck) can be reached by sending email to 'filk-owner at dragoncat.net'. The latter is the preferred contact method for issues about the list as a whole. We are using the MajorDomo mailing list administration program to maintain the list.

POSTING:
If you wish to post something to the list, please send it to
'filk at dragoncat.net'. If you wish to be added to the list, or removed from
the list, please send mail to 'majordomo at dragoncat.net' with the words
'subscribe filk' or 'unsubscribe filk' in the body of the message.

FILK SONGBOOK:
The filk songs that are available for download can be retrieved through majordomo. Send email to majordomo at dragoncat.net for instructions on how to get an index of avaliable files and instructions on how to retrieve specific files. There are currently only a few songs available, but I would like to encourage you all to submit any songs (in plain ascii text please) for which you are either the author and willing to have distrubuted, or which you have the author's express permission to distribute. Songs from authors who have given blanket permission are also gladly accepted. This archive may now also be accessed via the World Wide Web at the URL ftp://ftp.dragoncat.net/pub/filk. Files may be submitted for the archive via ftp or via email. The location for submission via FTP is the directory /incoming/filk on ftp.dragoncat.net.

PRIVACY/THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
Please remember that anything you post to the list is sent to all members of the list. At that time your email address becomes visible and people can reply directly to you. If you wish to post something without your email address being attached, please send it to one of the addresses listed under Administration and it will then be posted to the list after deleting your forwarding info. Unless you post to the list however, your email address will only ever be visible to the administrators of the list. The administrators might send you email in the interest of conventions, publications, etc. that they are directly working with. If you do not wish to recieve this sort of email, please TELL US NOW. Just directly email any one of the people listed as Administrators (or filk-owner at dragoncat.net) and your name will be tagged as unavailable for any reason. Not telling us that you don't want mail means that the administrators will assume they may contact you if they feel the need.

ETIQUETTE:
Flame wars will not be permitted. We also ask that you please respect the privacy of other people and don't give their email addresses out without their permission. Behave yourselves!

Thanks for your review of this posting. Let us know if you have any questions or comments.
