Alright, I'll poke my brain in on this one :)
(on the philosophical question, not on the lyrics to the kinsey-scale song)
I think that both types are completely appropriate for Filk. Anyone who's ever heard me do Rowan Tree at a filk would know for a fact that I don't think it 'just a song about things that don't exist :)'. I also love 'Word of God' and 'Act of Creation' both of which are (to me) very spiritual pieces. I personally wouldn't take offense at any song of a spiritual nature, especially if it was done with reverence for the power(s) it was referring to.
