reply Well someone beat me to posting the long list of Star Wars done
to pop songs, but below I've attached a very nice one by a trio
of filkers who produced under the name "Technical Difficulties"
while they were all still living within commuting distance of
one another. (T.J. Burnside who wrote "Lullabye for a Weary
World", Linda Melnick, and Sheila Willis.) When I get a chance
in the next couple of days, I'll type in another Star Wars filk
I'm fond of. Until then . . . .

_Come Ye Knights_
(Performed by Technical Difficulties, on "Please Stand By")
CHORUS:
Come ye knights and come ye pilots
(Video?) ships and sabers shining
Come and stop your children's crying
Come and join the Rebel Fleet.
Come with might and come with glory
Set your dreams on wings asoaring
Hear the ancient hidden story.
Come and join the Rebel Fleet!
Heard the tales the Empire spread
Told you Rebels couldn't win
So you locked your doors before them
Made you courage battered tin.
Promised to the traitors land
Wealth and power in your hands
You don't even have to fight
All you do is watch them die.
Never ask the dangerous questions
Such as why you're off to war
Yours is but to follow generals
Going where the trumpets blow --.
CHORUS
In the battle for Tiatris
Saw a pilot as he died
Looked into his shattered cockpit
Heard my soul in torment cry.
For the first time since I started
For the first time in my life
Looked into the enemy's eyes
Found that they were just like mine --.
Lived with evil for so long now
Had forgotten truth & right
Knew my time had come and somehow
Saw my way to join their fight --.
CHORUS
Lying in a blasted turret
With a full moon in my eyes
Had no hope that help was coming
When a flash lit up the skies.
Thought it was a battle starship
Felt that soon we all would die
Heard the words the Emperor promised
Knew right then it were a lie --.
Saw the Rebel starships coming
Being led by the Chosen Ones
And a new day has begun.
CHORUS
reply (This last time half of it is spoken, rather than played:
Lines 1-4 = only hit first chord.
Lines 5-6 = normal
Lines 7-8 = hit first and third chords, slow the tempo down
Bit more music to finish things off.)
