Charlene B "Taping at Filks" Generally the rule is just what I stated in that Etiquette Guide: don't make it so obvious it interferes with everyone's fun, don't sell the tapes without permission, and turn it off if asked. I've brought my walkman recorder to most of the cons in the last 3 years, set it up on the floor in front of me with the mike clipped to my bag, and then let it run, occassionally turning it on or off depending on whether I want a copy of the current song. I try to get the tapes ready earlier in the evenign so I don't have to crinkle plastic while others are singing. Only once or twice has anyone asked something not be taped; although I've checked with a couple of the bigger name performers at their concerts just to be extra sure it's ok. Generally I record from where I'm sitting, so the quality varies, but being more obvious makes most folks nervous. Once in awhile I'll move to sit next to the person singing with my recorder, but that's only when I've told them earlier in the day that I wanted to get X song on tape to play for a friend/whatever, if that would be ok. Anyway, that's my $0.02 worth. Your request sounds reasonable to me. John Bunnell = Has Golden Bough made any comment on this? That's a professional group, so I"d be reluctant to tape. Heather Alexander hasn't minded in the past, as long as it's purely for personal use. QuarongReceived on 11/03/97 This archive was generated by hypermail 2.2.0. |
