Ok, here's your irregular update on Celtic music happenings in the greater Seattle area:

GOLDEN BOUGH = They will be doing a NW tour in April, August, and possibly again in mid-November. Dates TBA.

Feb 13-21 = Women of Wisdom Conference on women's spirituality: workshops, lectures, crafts, concerts, etc. Unity Church, 200 8th Avenue North, Seattle. Call 206-622-8475, ext 135 for more information.

Feb 18-22 = A Celebration of Celtic Culture & Spirituality at Saint Mark's Cathedral on Capitol Hill. 1245 10th Avenhue E, Seattle. Call 206-323-1040 for more information.
-- Weds & Thurs will be lectures on various aspects of Celtic Christianity.

  • Fri is another lecture, and then a candlelight concert by Noirin Ni Riain.
  • Saturday there will be crafts and workshops on dance, storytelling, artwork, and religion. That evening is a concert by Connie Dover and Roger Landes, with a ceili to follow.
  • Sunday is a church service and lecture in the am, then a banquet and party.
  • Prices = $57 adult, $39 student for the weekend. Sat only is $35/25. One concert or the other is $30 reserved seats, $16 general admission, $12 student. Sold at the cathedral shop and Galway Traders in the advance or at the door.

Feb 19-22 = Wintergrass Festival in Tacoma. Will include Bluegrass, Celtic, and Gospel concerts, as well as workshops. I still haven't seen a specific schedule, but Paperboys, Wicked Celts, & Slainte are all supposed to play. The main venue is the Tacoma Sheraton. Tickets for the whole weekend are $35; for Sat only are $25 adult, $15 senior, $5 children. Call 253--926-4164 for more info.

Sat 2/21 = Tickets go on sale at 10am for the Chieftains playing the Paramount Theater on Thurs 4/30. Call Ticketmaster or go to the Paramount office.

Sun 2/22 = Connie Dover with Roger Landes play the Tractor Tavern at 8pm. Tickets are $12 in advance at the Tractor, Galway Traders, or Dusty Strings. Irish-American in style, Connie Dover now has 3 solo albums out.

Fri 2/27 = Clumsy Lovers, Celtic Rockers from Vancouver BC play the Tractor Tavern.

Sat 2/28 = Washington Piper's Association will hold a small gathering at St Thomas Church in Medina. Highland bagpipe recitals and competitions in the am, workshops in the afternoon. Call John Dally at 206-767-8268 for more info.

Sat 2/28 = Royal Scottish Country Dance Society holds a potluck and dance at the Mercer Island Congregational Church. Call 206-781-1218 for info.

Sun 3/1 = Several groups will put on a St David's Day Concert hosted by the Seattle Women's Welsh Club. 2:30pm at St Stephen's Episcopal Church in the University District; tea and crafts will follow. Call Rosemary 425-747-7355 for info.

Wed 3/4 = Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill at Carco Theater in Renton.

Tues 3/10 = Celtic Fiddle Fest at the Tractor Tavern, separate shows at 6:30 & 9pm. Tickets on sale now for $15 adv, $17 at the door. Kevin Burke, Johnny Cunningham, Christian LaMaitre.

March 14-17 = Irish festival at the Seattle Center. There will be videos, displays, crafts, and dancing all weekend.

March 14-18 = Irish film festival at the Seattle Art Museum.

Tuesday, March 17th = Saint Patrick's Day! There's the parade downtown at noon, a ceili with Clontarf at the the Tractor Tavern that evening, Paperboys are playing the Showbox, and lots more!

Sun 3/29 = Scottish folksinger Dick Gaughan plays the Tractor, 8pm $12.

Tues 3/31 = Irish Rovers at the Pantages Theater in Tacoma. 253-591-5894.
