Norwescon Thank You

Norwescon Thank You

This is over a month late I know, but my mundane job has kept me very busy since the convention, and I haven't even seen my email in that time frame. However, it's no less heartfelt on my side as a result.

I just wanted to thank all of you who joined us at the Norwescon Concerts and Filk Circles for your enthusiastic participation! Despite the controversy over the lack of a sales table, (something the Committee has been made very well aware they need to address before next year), we had an excellent turnout and a whole lot of fun.

I particularly want to thank my Panel Speakers: Dave Bigelow, Steve Dixon, Cat Faber, Arlene Hills, Jeff Hitchin, Scott MacHaffie, Darragh Metzger, Miki Nelson, Joe Warton-Banks. Most of whom, along with the remaining members of "A Little Knight Music" (John Moore, Lara Larson, Don Parris, & Maria Baker) also took a turn on the stage at our evening concerts.

Additional "Thank You's" go to:
* Michael Citrak, Jordan Orr, and their team of Norwescon Technical Guru's
who got us the equipment for the concerts; and then set it up and broke it down when and how we needed it, with a maximum of courtesy and efficiency.
* John Moore who helped with the soundchecks for "A Little Night Music" on
Friday night, and coached this technically inexperienced Filk Coordinator through the basics of running a soundboard.
* Joe Bethancourt who came all the way from Arizona at his own expense, and
with only a couple of days of advance warning, to be a valuable feature at our evening circle. Thank you particularly for your space program songs which reminded us to reach for the stars.
* The Committee Member from Copper Con who, for the 3rd year, brought the
leftovers from his Room Party in for the filkers to enjoy. Perhaps one of these days, I'll get your name. :)
* Michelle, the young lady who sang the gorgeous song about King Arthur;
and her two friends, who jammed along on other pieces with a great deal of skill. Please keep coming back.
* Ashley, my roommate, for listening and brainstorming ideas, and for
refraining from killing me as I worked to plan not only the track for this Norwescon, but last Westercon as well. Thanks for your support.

Finally, a big round of applause for everyone else who played, sang, made requests, shared in our panel discussions, or just plain sat back and listened! We do this because of our love of the music and the ideas it brings forward, and I hope we will keep doing it for a long time in the future!

I haven't yet taken a committee position for Norwescon 22, but I intend to continue contributing in some fashion both to it and to other conventions. If you have feedback, new panel ideas, or suggestions on the "sales table dilemma", I'd love to hear them.
Until later . . . .

Yours in music,

                Quarong

P.S. A slightly revised version of this note should be appearing in the official post-con report which will be sent out this summer. In the meantime, feel free to pass it on to whoever may be interested.
