VANCOUVER BC FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL = July 17-19 at Jericho Beach Park. It's not free, but it's reportedly very good. Music of Newfoundland, Cuba, the Rom, Celtic traditional and new, songwriters, and dance & instrument workshops. Contact in the US or Canada 800-883-3655, or <info at thefestival.bc.ca> or <www.thefestival.bc.ca>.

PAPERBOYS = It looks like a growing bunch of us are going to their show at Pier 62 on Wed 7/8 at 7pm. (General admission seating/ standing outside; probably under $10.) If you'd like to check out a fantastic Celtic Rock group, and don't want to have to stay up late or breath cigarette smoke to do so; come join us!

NOMOS = Another very good, but somewhat more traditional, Celtic group is coming to the Tractor Tavern on 8/13. I would suggest getting tickets about the beginning of that month as it may sell out. Check the Tractor, Dusty Strings, or Galway Traders.

SEATTLE FOLKLORE SOCIETY = I'm not going to type their schedule in here given that it's fairly extensive, and I've been forwarding the monthly versions from their listserv. If you'd like to get it directly, contact either <robbik at isdnseattle.net> or 206-528-8523 or <www.seafolklore.org>.

replyTEMPEST = Some of you may be familiar with this Celtic Rock group; if not, I'd highly recommend them. Anyway, I ended up talking to one of their Seattle associates last night, and apparently they haven't played in Seattle proper in a couple of years because they can't find a club which makes it financially feasible for them to do so. (Poor promotion is part of this.) However, given that most of the Bellingham show is made up of Seattle folks, we were thinking a bit of encouragement (ie letters to the band) might make a difference. So if you have a few minutes . . . Tempest. 2155 Park Blvd #1. Oakland, CA 94606.

MAGICAL STRINGS = Hammered dulcimer and harp, a whole family of musicians playing "New Age"-type Celtic. They will have a booth at the Marymoor Heritage festival on 7/3 to 7/5, with a concert Sun 1:45-2:30. They are also doing booths at the Gig Harbor Summer Festival (7-18/19), Pacific NW Arts Fair (7-24/26), Whidbey Island Folk Festival (8/2 11:30am), Everett Parks (8/6 7-9pm), and the Kent Canterbury Faire (8/16 12:45-1:30pm). For a continuing schedule or class information, check out <www.harbornet.com/magicalstrings> or (253) 857-6402.

MARITIME CONCERT SERIES = All shows are Sat 8-10pm on the historic 3 masted schooner Wawona at the south end of Lake Union. Tickets are $8 general; $5 kids, seniors, & members; proceeds to the musicians and the restoration project. 206-447-9800. July 18th is Revell Carr & Watch the Skye. Aug 22 is Shanghied on the Willamette, and Tania Opland & Mike Freeman. Sept 18 is John Sparrow & Shifty Sailors. Oct 10th is Broadside & Morgan Segal. For maritime oriented music in between these shows, check out the Fiddler's Inn in the Wedgewood neighborhood of Seattle, where a lot of this type of local crowd hangs out.

STAY TUNED = As soon as I have a bit of spare time <insert hysterical laughter here>, I'll update my complete Celtic Directory and repost it for all of your listening pleasure. In the meanwhile, call Galway Traders at 206-784-7343 for info on the "Celtic Calendar"; the Tractor Tavern's concertline 206-789-3599; or Dusty Strings 206-634-1656for even more info.

Keep Dancing!
