Let's see if I can do this in chronological order given the number of pieces of paper scattered around my desk.

(1) CAMLANN MEDIEVAL FAIR begins on weekends in Carnation, WA on 7/18; and
should run well into August. Call 425-788-1353 for more info.

(2) Sun 7/26 English Folksinger ROY BAILEY will be at the Tractor Tavern
206-789-3599.

(3) WOMAD, the World Music, Art, & Dance festival, is making its US debut
at Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA; on the weekend of July 31-Aug 2. They are bringing in some well established musicians from all over the world for these concerts. Tickets are $32 for a day, and $75 for the whole weekend. Check out <www.womadusa.org> or 206-281-8111 for more info.

(4) LORD OF THE DANCE is returning to Seattle for 5 shows at the Paramount
Theater, August 7-9, 1998. Friday at 8, Sat at 2 & 8pm, Sun 2 & 7pm. Call Ticketmaster for more info and price gouging.

(5) The KENT CANTERBURY FAIR is taking place Aug 15 & 16 at Mill Creek
Canyon Park at the base of Kent's SE hill. Crafts, kids' activities, SCA and Renaissance demos, food, music and more. Admission is $1, and free parking is available with a bit of looking. Celtic music related shows include, Sat: Telynor (medieval European, 11am); and The Cutters (sea chanteys, 3:15pm). Sun: Sibling Revelry (Irish dance, 11am); Magical Strings (New Age-ish harp & hammered dulcimer, 12:45); Tacoma Scots pipe & drum group (1:45pm). Also of interest is Japanese Taiko drumming at 12:45 on Sat (BIG DRUMS! :). And Greenstage's presentation of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at 3pm on Sun. (This is one of about 4 plays being done in Seattle area parks this summer for donations. I need to find the phone # for the general schedule.)

(6) Wed 8/13 NOMOS will be returning to the Tractor as well. They have an
excellent reputation for high energy Celtic music. I intend to be there. Advance tickets available from Galway Traders, Dusty Strings, and the Tractor itself. (Also Ticketmaster if you like paying excessive fees.)

GOLDEN BOUGH (a long-standing, fairly traditional Celtic & European music group from California) is doing a NW tour in July & August. Many of these concerts are occurring as part of "Summer Concert Series" so are likely to be outside and low-cost/free admission.

        (503) 472-3605.

TEMPEST is also going on tour on the East Coast in early & mid August, back to CA late that month, then back into the Great Lakes region of the US & Canada and into NY again in Sept; unfortunately, they're not coming to the NW on this pass. Check out their new website <www.tempestmusic.com> or telephone at (510) 452-5084 for details. Or ask me about a more specific region and I'll check the dates on my hardcopy. (It's a bit long to type here.)

The face of the band has changed substantially in the past two years: Leif Sorbye is of course still the lead, and Adolfo Lazo remains as drummer. New faces are Dave Parnall, Michael Mullen (fiddle), and John Land. They have a new album out called "The Gravel Walk" which looks to be back to traditional Celtic music, though I'm sure with their unique rock energy; plus some of the popular live tunes ("Buffalo Jump" and "The Karfluki Set".) They are also releasing a 10 Year Anniversary album with new versions of their most popular songs. Finally, Leif Sorbye & Michael Mullen have collaborated on an album called "Caliban": a traditional, and slightly lower key version of the work the band does as a whole. I have order info here if you're interested, or I'm sure it's on the website.

I have plans to update my big Celtic Directory as soon as I get a few other projects taken care of; and I may even get around to typing up a whole bunch of my Irish dance steps in one place. So stay tuned!

Wishing you joy in the music,

                                Quarong
