Filker's Permission List

Thanks Michael for posting the URL for the Virtual Filksing. I had had it on my list of websites, but forgotten about it. The good news is it also has a number of links to the performers themselves, so can be a good starting point for larger websearches.

An even better beginning platform is the site run by Kay Shapero, the long-time moderator of the Usenet filk groups. (They've apparently built a "ring" for this topic.)

I was emailing her the other day, and she says the <alt.music.filk> group has largely gone dead, but there's still plenty of action at <rec.arts.music.filk>. Among other things on her website is the FAQ on this topic, and a list of who does and doesn't like their songs being passed around in public forums.
