Portland Concert -- Cecilia Eng

From: Mistress of the Blue Shift <quarong at eskimo.com>
Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 18:06:43 -0800

There are two upcoming opportunities to celebrate Cecilia Eng's first new album in a decade. She and her backup musician, a very good guitar player by the name of Emrys Atkinson, will be doing a live performance of "Harmony in Practice" at both venues.

(1) Firebird Arts & Music Open House on Sat 12/5/98 between noon and 8pm. This is your annual chance to access Firebirds inventory of Filk, Celtic, Native American music & crafts; otherwise only available through mail order. 4835 NE 106th Avenue; Portland, OR 97220. (503) 255-5751 or (800) 752-0494. http://firebirdarts.com

(2) Portland SF Society meeting on Sat 12/12/98 at 2pm. Portland State University, Smith Center, Rm 229. (503) 727-3570. (This group meets the 2nd Sat of every month at this location.)

The album is available from Firebird, or at the Friends of Filk table at SF conventions. Nearly all of the songs on the album, both words & lyrics, are originals by Cecilia; Emrys helped with the arrangements.

The tracks are:
Star Rovers = inspired by CJ Cherryh "Downbelow Station" universe. Star Chanty = inspired by the concept of colonizing other planets. Caught in the Line of Fire = for Vila in "Blake's 7". Dark Wine & Roses = a romantic, vampire genre song. Birds of a Feather = inspired by Lackey's "Free Bards" series. Price of Command = inspired by Lackey's "Oathbound" series. X as in Fox = the tagline is "you know the truth is out there"(X-Files) Harmony in Practice = life philosophy.
Faeryland Faire = fun fantasy related song. Heart of the Appaloosa = Fred Small's famous tale of the Nez Pierce.

If you like SF*F based folk music, you should like this album.

Until later,
