Dec 10 - 19 = MAGICAL STRINGS does their Winter Holiday show from Portland to Vancouver BC. Tickets run from $10-15, and most venues are doing sets at 3 & 7pm. This a family show with traditional and new Celtic holiday music; some dancing, juggling, and storytelling. Check out their website for specifics or let me know where you live and I'll send them to you. <www.magicalstrings.com> Dec 11 = TARRAS "a new, young traditional group from the Borders area of Britain" play at Conor Byrne's in Ballard at 9pm to promote their debut album "Rising". I'm not sure I'm going to make it there, but I'd love to hear from someone who does. Cover is usually $3.
Dec 14 = ANDY STEWART & GERRY O'BEIRNE perform Scottish based stories
and songs at Tractor Tavern in Ballard. 8pm, tickets are $15 and
available in advance. Andy Stewart used to be with "Silly Wizard".
by Clare guitarist Gerry O'Beirne, a brilliant songwriter in his own right." Dec 16 = HANZ ARAKI holds a release party for his first CD at Conor Byrne's. 9pm, maybe $3 to get in. Hanz used to play flute with the Paperboys, and has now been striking out as a solo artist. He plays traditional Celtic pieces and sings acapella; he is frequently joined by a variety of other NW Celtic musicians. (He also plays traditional Japanese music, but not in this venue.) Dec 26 = SAINT STEPHEN'S DAY FESTIVAL at the Seattle Center. A variety of entertainment will begin at noon, and a traditional Irish dance gathering will begin at 7pm. There will be other cultural celebrations taking place at the Center over the rest of the week. The Irish Heritage Club has more info 206-242-5140. Jan 1 & 2 = THE PAPERBOYS play 2 nights at the Tractor Tavern. Show starts at 9pm, tickets are probably $10 and will sell out in advance. Hanz Araki opens the Sat show, and I'm hoping to get a bunch of folks to show up. This is a high energy Celtic Rock band with a Bluegrass slant, and a very devoted fan following. I hope to see you at some of these events! Quarong <*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*><*>
