day at the Mercer island Congregational Church, 4545 Island Crest
Way. 9:45am-noon for basic/intermediate levels, and 1-3:15 p.m. for
intermediate/advanced. Sessions will be taught by Ron Wallace of Santa
Rosa, CA; music is by Wild Rose, a band that specializes in traditional
dance music of Scotland and Cape Breton. There will be a dance at 8 p.m.

reply· Irish traditional singer Maire Ni Cheileachair of Cork, Ireland. is
visiting in BC, for a month and will come to Seattle for a day to teach a
workshop in singing at the Seattle Center House. She is an All-Ireland
Fleadh Cheoil winner and has recently released her first CD, "Guth ar Fan'
(A Wandering Voice) featuring songs in Irish & English. Her love of
traditional singing comes from her family roots in Kilnamartyr County

reply· A Spring Equinox Gorsedd (bardic meeting) & Eistedfodd are held by
the Bards of Caer Pugetia, the local branch of the British Druid Order;
12-3 p.m. under the maple tree by the Bandshell at Volunteer Park. The
event is free and open to all.
reply· Virtuoso Cape Breton fiddler David Greenberg performs with Mike
Saunders at 8pm at the Tractor Tavern. David has released several albums
with his group, Puirt a Baroque, featuring both traditional and classical
tunes. He now has a new album of all Cape tunes. Mike also has a new

Monday March 20 = Doyle's Traditional Irish Cabaret is presented, 7:30
p.m. at Pantages Theater in Tacoma. The lively personality of a Dublin pub

Wednesday March 22 - Travel guru Rick Steves gives a lecture with slide
show and question & answer session on what's new in European travel for

SaL Mar. 25 -- Seirm, the Gaelic Choir & Performance Ensemble, will give a
Spring Concert of traditional Scottish Gaelic songs and music, 7:30 p.m. at
Central Lutheran Church, 1710 11th Ave. on Capitol Hill (one block north of
Pine). Sponsored by Slighe nan Gaidheal, the concert features piper John
Dally and other guests. Tickets at the door: $7 adults, $5 children &
seniors. This is a benefit performance for Feis Shiatail 2000, a week-long
festival of Scottish Gaelic language, music and culture April 29-May 7. For

Sat Mar. 25 -- Clan Gordon Pipe Band presents their 37th annual Tartan
Ball, 7:30 p.m.-l a.m. on the Puyallup Fairgrounds, Pavilion Building, 2nd

Center House. A special workshop this year is a class in "Sean
nos” (old-style) singing taught by singer Maire Ni Cheileachair of Cork,
Ireland. David McCourt is MC at the Flag Pavillion. [Most of these
groups are worth checking out. It’s interesting to see the different dance
school styles. Mary and I will be down there on Friday at least.]

The group Stone Circle, with Micbael MacBean on harp, Betb Kolle on flute,
harp and whistle, and Mike Saunders on fiddle, guitar and accordion, play
traditional Celtic and Nordic music at the CD release concert for their new
album," Voyage North," 7 p.m. at Frye Art Museum Auditorium, 704 Terry Ave.
(just east of 1-5 near Boren Ave, entrance on Columbia.) Tickets are $8
adults, $2 under 12, available at Galway Traders, Dusty Strings, Enchanted

A Celtic Cosmo-Techno Experience is held, 7 p.m. at Seattle's Unity Church,
200 8th Ave. near Denny Park. The Center for Celtic Spirituality joins
Unity in celebrating St. Patrick's Day with this "spiritual rave." The
worship service incorporates Celtic spirituality, ethnic music and dance as
celebration. All are welcome. Donation at the door. Call Unity at
