That's a great idea! I know I was intimidated the first time I started doing harmonies, and couldn't 'find' the right blend right away. Then I heard someone I admired doing the same thing...and it made me a lot more comfortable. I have helped a few folk learn how to do harmonizing, and it seems the biggest drawback is the lack of self-confidence. (Just as it is in any performance art when you're learning it.)

replyreplyI wonder if the way to do this would be to pick a song on the spot (like when we arrive at the panel) that everyone knows, and work out harmony to it during the panel, sort of like a workshop, so that people can not only hear us talking about how to do it, but actually hear a demonstration. I think usually people who do harmonies trot out the finished product, and it might be very informative for would-be harmonists to hear the process, the mistakes and blind alleys along the way, so they won't feel like they're stupid because they can't produce great harmonies on the first try.
