Vancouver Celtic Festival

Yes, that's Vancouver, B.C., but it's a wonderful line-up, so I thought I'd share with you all anyway.

Thursday 5/4 at the Scottish Cultural Center. Cost is $7.

	Vin Garbert (Unknown to me.)
The Splinters (A Bluegrass style band led by Shannon Saunders of the
Paperboys.)
VCF All Stars (A put-together band with Tom Landa of the Paperboys,
someone from Spirit of the West, and a few others.)

Friday & Saturday 5/5 & 5/6 at the Norman Robein Theater (Jewish Community

Center at 41st & Oak). 8pm-Midnight. Cost is $32 for each night.
Both nights = Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill, and Lunasa. (These are
probably 2 of the most talented groups in the traditional music field at this time;

although their sound is anything but "traditional" in the way most would think of the term. Very tight harmonies and a lot of energy; even if you aren't

a big fan of Celtic music, I would highly recommend them. The former are a violin / guitar duo from the NW, and the latter a band made up of

members from a lot of other well known Irish & Scottish groups.)
Friday night = Also playing is JP "somebody" (Sorry, I don't remember
the full name, only that I didn't recognize it.)
Saturday night = Also playing is Hanz Araki, Finn McGinty, & Dale
Russ. (An essemble from Seattle who I enjoy seeing regularly: flute, guitar, & fiddle.)

There may also be some panels and discussions during the day on Saturday at the Virgin Theater, but this was not confirmed the last I had heard.

The Quality Inn in Downtown Vancouver is offering a 30% discount on rooms for this event. (This makes it $89 a night for 2 people.) Call 604-682-0229. 1313 Howell Street, which is reportedly fairly close to the venues in question.

(All prices are in Canadian dollars. There is some talk that the shows may sell out. Advance tickets are available in Vancouver, but not in the US.)

Unitl later,

        Quarong
