replyThe Very Broad Outlines of an OryCon program are beginning to take shape, and I would like to poll the gallery for opinions on some of the space/event issues confronting us as we try to fit all the pegs into properly shaped holes. replyOne probable truism is that we may *not* be able to schedule all the events we'd like to schedule without putting a few of them opposite each other, particularly with respect to evening programming. Space is just at too much of a premium (darnit!). That said, assume the following hypothetical set of events: # feature-length concerts on *both* Friday and Saturday evening # 2 hours of mini-concerts *each* on Friday and Saturday evening # space for 2 open filk circles (bardic, chaos) each night Now, here's the catch. Based on past experience, the *only* way I've seen us sustain 2 circles is to start both of them at the *same* time, not staggered by an hour or two as has been the case the last couple of years. That being the case, which do you think is most/least workable:
(a) schedule a mini-concert series against a feature concert
(start both open circles at the same time, ca. 9-10 pm)
(i.e. 1 hour in each of 2 rooms)
(start open circles at the same time, ca. 10-11 pm)
(f) something else (specify) ALSO -- if you would like to do a mini-concert, it's NOT too early to let me know. This will tell me, among other things, whether I should slot mini-concerts at 20-25 minute sets (i.e. 4 in 2 hours) or 30-minute sets (i.e. 3 in 2 hours) -- about which I'd also be glad for feedback. This last can and should be passed along to those who may not be on this list but might be interested. -- = John C.
