replyHaving read Michelle and Anne's messages, I have concluded that there are not enough free hours and rooms to schedule everything that we want. Please add more hours to each day of the Con ASAP. I think that two hours for mini concerts is just about right. Then again, it depends on how many people want a slot. If there are great hordes of performers lined up, maybe it would be better to have some of that time set as an open-mike style event, with people doing just one or two numbers each. Or maybe some people who only sing a capella or with an acoustic guitar could have small slots in between those who require more setup/takedown time. Really, my only complaint about the way the concerts were run last year was that we spent so much time waiting between sets. I'm sure if we put our heads together, we can find a way around that... I vote for one filk circle. I want to hear as many singers as possible. However, it should be moderated chaos. Bardic in one room takes way too long to go around the circle, and chaos with no moderator can result in a few people taking too many turns and a few shy types not getting to sing at all. A little common courtesy should make things work. Again, I'm thinking of last year, especially Saturday night, which worked fine. Another option to consider is poker chip style. I have no experience with this, but it sounds like a great way to run a large filksing.
Best,
