Hi

My problem with set-up generally is that (if I have a harp) I need to tune. I actually need to be able to hear to do this, as there isn't an electronic tuner made that I can see. So setting up while someone else is performing at the other end of the room doesn't seem like it would work too well.

I point out that much of the problem with set-up has to do with how experienced people are at doing it (including the people running the sound, people setting up logistics in advance, etc.) If everything is in one place and everyone is singing off the same page as to who's sitting, who's standing, how people should be miked, what they're playing, and so forth, I find it hard to see why it should take any more than 5 minutes between sets (unless you have a five-octave harp that's completely out of tune of course:) ).

Another possibility, if set-up takes up too much time, is to put two acts on the stage at the same time in a 1-hour slot. It's then up to the two acts to decide whether they want to intermix songs, do consecutive sets, or do a thing where they do some solos and some duets. The best concert I ever gave, I gave with jeff Hitchin--we took two 25-minute slots and combined them, and had a blast.

I generally dislike, as the audience, having two things going on at opposite ends of the room. I like sitting in the front row where I can actually see something. Having stuff at either end of a rom means I miss half the acts by definition--since moving around the room is also difficult. Thanks, but I'd rather have everything at one end and do what it takes to minimize the set-up time. Plus, I'm not sure we have the PA stuff to do that.

Oh, well...enough said, I guess.
