Casey Neill Trio Tour

CASEY NEILL TRIO performs American folk music with strong Bluegrass and Celtic overtones; and lyrics based in environmental and working class topics, as well as more traditional pieces. Casey is the centerpiece of the group, playing the guitar, singing lead vocals, and writing some powerful, thought provoking lyrics; but he has found a very strong set of musicians who also have other careers to join him in in over the past few years. In this incarnation it is Hanz Araki on flute and supporting vocals, and Zak Borden on mandolin and supporting vocals. Hanz has been a friend of mine now for a few years because of his activities with The Paperboys, Setanta, and other regular sessions in the Seattle area; but I have also been fortunate enough to get to know Casey and Zak in the past year, and some talented musician friends of their's more recently, and it is definitely a community I support. Casey's first cd has been out for a couple of years, title simply "Casey Neill". He and Zak also did a "Trio" one called "Skree" in 1999 with fiddler Anthea Lawrence. Hanz did some supporting work on that along with several other people; and he took over the third slot on their upcoming album. Zak's background is in Bluegrass as you can see on his solo "Whistles and Steam" album. While Hanz was trained in Shakuhachi flute (Japanese classical), but has made his career in Irish traditional music. He has a solo album with Finn McGinty under his name; and he, Finn, and Dale Russ have a very recent one under their group name of "Setanta". This is not "sit and think quietly in your living room folk music", there's a lot of energy to it; and I would encourage you to come check them out and pass the word to your friends in the cities mentioned below.

I look forward to seeing you at the Seattle shows!

Hurray for our band of happy ragged folk. Telling old stories and fireside jokes.
Living for the music, the love, and the laugh. Hurray for the riff-raff!
