A sad event

replyI am unsure if any of the members of the list are familiar with Warren Oddson; he was a Vancouver area artist and active in the local fannish community. He was Artist Guest of Honor at Westercon 44 in Vancouver. A fabulous tenor, he was actually the person who introduced me to filk; he took me to the first house filk I ever attended back in 1987 when there still WAS some active filking around these parts. We even dated off and on for a few years.

He died unexpectedly on Tuesday. He will be missed more than I can express with words.

As I am unable to attend Vikingcon, I’m going to miss what sounds to me something akin to a wake that the Vancouver fans are hoping to organize – if anyone from here is going there and finds a party where Warren is being saluted, can you go and drink a toast to him for me? I don’t imagine they’ll want you to be smashing any shot glasses… (where the hell is Callahan’s when you need it?) He did favour Ricker’s Red if they happen to have any on tap. Received on 08/16/01
