Hmm. I can help you with the analog transfer, probably. What problems are you having? If you are using the Windows Sound Recorder, then that is your primary problem right there.

I can also do quite a bit with the other stuff, either by suggesting software for you to use, or by doing it myself. I have Cool Edit Pro, which a friend gave me a couple years back. This will allow me to do most sound effects nicely, though it is definitely best if I start with uncompressed audio, rather than MP3s. Unless your computer is really old, it can do that sort of thing after you record the file, though it may take a very long time.

As far as the sound card goes, you'll need a fairly good one to be able to record digitally. I assume that your Minidisk player has a digital output? What type? The soundcard will probably be upwards of $150, but I can help you with the installation. It's what I do.
