[filk] Welding chicks, and Trades filks...
replyreplyYes, AAMOF, I did see Flashdance many years ago. I remember liking it, but
it grows hazy with time. And funny you should mention it, since welding is
the trade that I am interested in. Heh. There was an amusing line scrawled
in soapstone in one of the gas welding cubicles in the welding shop -
"Welding Chicks like it HOTTER". We all got a good giggle out of that.
As for the filks, I'm working on three - "Journey(ed) Girls" TTTO "Uptown
Girl", "Tradeswoman" TTTO "Matchmaker" from Fiddler, and "Women in Trades"
TTTO Y.M.C.A. (Might end up W.I.T instead - or even B.C.I.T. after the name
of the institute)
Here's the first one as it's the only one that is finished.
"Journey(ed) Girls"
TTTO "Uptown Girl"
Journey(ed) girls
We are living in a tradesmen's world
So we really need to
Show those guys
That excluding us just isn't wise,
It's no surprise
Journey(ed) girls
With a baseball cap to
Hold back curls
With our steel toed boots and
Coveralls
Don safety glasses as the foreman calls
Let's go to work
And when we walk
In the shop
And pick up our tools
The guys all stare,
We don't care
That we broke their rules
Just watch us use the lathe,
Weld or drill,
reply(then we bathe!)
Cuz we're
Journey(ed) girls
Don't need to stink or scratch
Or act like churls
To prove that we belong
And we deserve
A chance to show our worth, our skills, our verve
And we've got nerve!
(chorus)
Cuz we're Journey(ed) girls
(We're Journey(ed) gi-ir-irls)
(repeat and fade)
Okay. So... you still want more, or was that enough to make you run
screaming from the room? *g*

Shaddyr--please do regale us with your filks about chicks in trades.
Did you ever see the movie Flash Dance? It's one of my favorites, starring
a chick steel worker, a welder of some sort, I believe.
