[filk] Re: Welding chicks, and Trades filks...
Hi
There are two definitions of "filk", at least the way I understand them.
One is music written by fans to others' tunes, broad subject range possible.
The other is music written to any tune (original or otherwise) which has
to do with science fiction and fantasy.
Likewise there are two definitions of "folk" music. One is music written
by and about the "people" (read, general population, not necessarily
musicians) about their lives and work. The other is definition of "folk"
music is any traditional "folk" song or ethmic song and whatever other
modern "pure" song is written by a singer/songwriter considered by a
critical mass of people to be a folksinger. Filk (both kinds) is a
movement within the broader "folk" movement--where folk is defined the
first way. There! Did I get circular and obscure enough for you? :)
