I'm going to Consonance in March so I won't be attending Norwescon.

Due to the fact that the con is March 28-31 this year, the major Programming Grid session is taking place on 12/9, and the tentative Program Book deadline is on 1/15/02. This means that if you have ideas you would like considered, I need to hear them now.

So far, the setup is going to be much the same as in the past: Circle every evening, 30 minute concert slots on Friday night, some type of dance activities probably on Saturday afternoon, and panels space out at a few other places. If there's something you really think doesn't work, tell me and I'll see what I can do. However, keep in mind, I have to share a limited number of resources with a lot of other people; and after several years in this hotel, I think we've pretty much reached the best set of compromises we can in how things are done. [Regarding the "Filk Programming Discussion" that took place after Orycon, although I wasn't free to add my 2 cents in, I am now reading all of your comments, and will take them into consideration to the extent I can. More on this later.]

There has been a request for a Celtic Jam Session pending for a couple of years, and it finally looks like I have enough musicians to pull it off, so I think I'm going to try and fit this in on Saturday evening. What I'd really like is to spice up the panel-type activities, so if you have ideas on that front, I'd love to hear them. There's been a demand for lyric writing sessions in the past, but I need enough experts commited to making it happen. Harmony or How to Jam sessions have been popular, as was the "Top 20 filksongs" panel at Westercon. Do you want these again?

I'm still waiting on the list of who's been invited from my Programming heads, but there's still time to send out a few more, so if you know someone who has the skills to contribute at least 4 hours of music and other con related programming, have them get in touch with me. If you are one of the Professionals who has been invited to Norwescon, I would encourage you to stay in touch with me directly as much as possible: Cheryl and Bob are great Department leaders, but they are dealing with all 200 odd pros, and so things can get buried or delayed; especially when they then have to relay them to me. My mundane obligations seriously limit my email time, but I do value your input and will respond as fast as I can.
