Gentles, Once I get approval from my potential host, I plan to run a SF/Fantasy/Anime/Gaming ONLINE convention tbis summer called Technocon 2003. There will be all the stuff found at regular cons, only online - the panel discussions will be chat sessions, the games will be played online, the dealer's room will be vendor links, etc. One of the things I have been wondering how to handle is filking. It just wouldn't be a con without filking IMHO. But you can't really run a filk online. I was thinking instead of a lyric exchange (where people can post their lyrics for others to build their filkbooks with) and a performance-link exchange 9where those who have recorded performances on MP3 or other digital media can share their files - the con server does not enable actual file sharing but does enable hyperlinks to websites).
What do people think of this? Would they go for an idea like
this? Would you go to such a convention? The price will be very
reasonable. I'm looking at late summer for the event: August 15th-17th
or August 22nd-24th for the dates and a $10 prereg until July 31st ($15
thereafter). Filk dealers, of course, would be welcome in the vendor's
area - a vendor's booth comes with a free membership and would be very
simple to set up.
